A TAXI driver who was still on the road after 22:00 in an apparent violation of the curfew regulations has lost his vehicle after thieves disguised as ordinary travellers overpowered him and stole his white Toyota RunX.
According to police spokesperson Andrew Nghiyolwa, the unnamed taxi driver was driving from Eenhana to Onhuno between 22:00 and 23:00 on Saturday when two “hikers” he found along the road asked him to take them to Oshakati.
It is alleged that he informed the duo that he was not going anywhere past the Onhuno roadblock, but they pleaded with him, demanding that he at least take them to the Oshikango-Ondangwa main road.
However, before reaching the destination, the unknown suspects threatened the driver with knives, overpowered him, tied his arms and legs and sealed his mouth.

They drove to a spot west of the Oshikango border post where they tied their victim to a tree before driving off, crossing the border into Angola.
No one was arrested and the vehicle was not yet recovered.
Another theft of a motor vehicle was reported at Ondobe village where a Toyota pick-up was stolen from where it was parked by the owner.
Nghiyolwa said that the thieves simply pushed the vehicle some distance before igniting it and driving off.
It is suspected that the stolen vehicle was taken across the border into Angola.
