THE Namibian Police are hunting for a gang of four men that robbed a cash-in transit-van and stole N$756 612 in Windhoek on Saturday morning.
According to eye-witness reports, several shots were fired during the robbery at the Metro Wholesale shop in the Northern Industrial Area of Windhoek.
The incident report provided by the Namibian Police states that the robbery occurred at about 08:30 on Saturday morning while employees of Namibia Protection Services were collecting cash for banking purposes at the wholesaler.
Four men armed with firearms held the security guards at gunpoint while they stole the bags and cases containing large amounts of cash. In the process, several shots were fired and the robbers also took the service firearm of one of the guards before escaping in a getaway car that was waiting nearby.
According to the incident report, the robbers managed to get away with more than a quarter of a million dollars and a firearm that was issued to one of the NPS guards.
No recovery or arrest has been made and the search for the gang of armed robbers will continue.
