THE Brave Warriors’ dream of qualifying for the forthcoming Total African Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2021 championship in Cameroon, received a major boost following the suspension of their opponent Chad by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The Namibia Football Association (NFA) released a statement confirming that their qualifying match against Chad has been cancelled following the CAF suspension.
According to CAF rules, Namibia will receive three points from the forfeited match in line with the football governing body FIFA statutes which stipulate that Chad’s suspension results in that country incurring a loss in the scheduled match.

In a statement, the CAF said: “Following the suspension of the Chadian Football Federation by the Chadian Ministry of Youth and Sports, CAF has decided to disqualify the national team of Chad from the qualifying rounds of the African Cup of Nations 2021.”
According to CAF, the suspension of Chad will see Namibia and Mali each picking up three points in their group campaign to participate in the final rounds of the AFCON 2021.
“In line with Article 61 read together with Article 64 of the CAF regulations, Chad is considered a loser of both matches against Namibia and Mali,” the CAF statement said.
Chad was supposed to play in Group A along with Mali, Guinea, and Namibia.
After four match days, Mali is currently at the top of the Group A log with 10 points, followed by Guinea (8 points) and Namibia (3 points). Chad was trailing the group on one point.
