Aiyambo stated that only one of the two deceased persons, a 31-year-old female could be positively identified. The second person, a man had no identification documents on him. His age and residential address is not known.

“Anyone who had a family member travelling from Okahao to Oshakati on Monday afternoon and who did not reach home should contact the Oshakati police mortuary for possible identification of the deceased accident victims,” he said.

Aiyambo stated that it was alleged that the driver of the Oshakati registered Toyota Wish station wagon was trying to overtake another vehicle and collided with a Volkswagen Jetta with a Windhoek registration number causing the head-on collision.

According to Aiyambo, all the passengers in Toyota including the driver sustained serious injuries and one of the passengers died at the hospital.

“The driver of a Volkswagen Jetta sustained only slight injuries. Both drivers were subjected to blood alcohol tests after the incident,” he said.

Aiyambo identified the injured persons as Joseph Yoleni Alugodhi who was the driver, while the passengers were Tylves Kawelakana Kweenda (26), Heltha Namutenya Obandja (48), Johannes Shikongo (18), and Johanna Amukwaya (30).

Aiyambo noted that the injured victims are currently admitted to the hospital in Oshakati.
