THE Founding President of Namibia, Dr. Sam Nujoma paid tribute to the late Tanzanian President, John Pombe Magufuli, who passed on at the age of in a Dar es Salaam hospital on Wednesday.
Dr. Nujoma said while signing a book of condolences at the Tanzanian High Commission in Windhoek, that Dr. Magafuli reminded him of former President Julius Nyerere.
The Founding President extended his message of condolences to the people of Tanzania through Tanzanian High Commissioner to Namibia, Dr. Modestus Kipilimba.
“Even as we are consumed with grief, we celebrate a life of an outstanding and fearless African leader and an unwavering Pan-Africanist who will be remembered for his contribution to the development of your country and indeed the entire African continent as he left an indelible mark on Tanzania’s development landscape and footprints of true leadership on the soil of mother Africa,” Dr. Nujoma informed the Tanzanian High Commissioner.
According to Dr. Nujoma, Magafuli followed in the footsteps of the Founding Father of the United Republic of Tanzania, Mwalimu Julius Kambarange Nyerere.
“Nyerere was the visionary and progressive leader of our time during the most difficult period in African history when we were fighting to liberate our country Namibia from the colonial occupation of the apartheid minority regime of South Africa. May we all be comforted and granted fortitude during this difficult moment of a dark cloud that engulfed your country and people. May the Soul of Dr. John Pombe Magufuli Rest in Eternal Peace,” he said.
