THE assistant driver of the goods train that derailed in Swakopmund on Tuesday died, while the driver and another person that was inside the locomotive at the time of the accident, were seriously injured.
According to the incident report provided by the Namibian Police in the Erongo Region, the assistant driver was sitting inside the locomotive along with the driver and another person when the train toppled over in the station and shunting area of TransNamib situated in the eastern industrial area of Swakopmund.
“When the train derailed it fell over on its side. The assistant driver was crushed under the weight of the locomotive,” the report states.
According to the incident report, the two other persons that sustained serious injuries during the derailment were rushed to hospital as soon as they were freed from the wreckage.
