THE 40-year-old Quenerely Xamises died at the scene of a head-on collision between two minibuses, a Toyota Quantum and an Iveco, that were transporting a total of 25 people on Monday morning.
According to the accident report provided by the Public Relations Division of the Namibian Police, the crash occurred when the driver of the Iveco passed another vehicle that was in the process of turning off to the Neudamm Campus of the University of Namibia. The Iveco was transporting immigration officials to the Hosea Kutako International Airport from Windhoek, while the Quantum was transporting residents of the residential settlement at the airport and some children to the capital.
Eight people that were travelling in the quantum were seriously injured, while 14 of the people in the Iveco bus sustained injuries ranging from slight to serious.
Members of the emergency services based in Windhoek had their hands full with transporting all the seriously injured persons to the Katutura State Hospital for emergency medical treatment.
