As part of the #IWD2021 #ChooseToChallenge theme, Monica Geingos, Namibia’s First Lady, challenged gendered insults as they humiliate and reduce women into restrictive boxes of societal norms and expectations.
FLON elaborated that when women allow themselves to be bullied and insulted, they may be signalling that the conduct is acceptable and normal. She further added that disrespecting women is an enabler of Gender-Based Violence as it reduces women to objects.
During the challenge, FLON stated that “The next time you see a tweet, a Facebook or Instagram story shaming women, remember its intent.
Gendered stereotypes are harmful and often result in the violation of women’s rights and bodily integrity.”
