A Gobabis man will spend the next 37 years in jail for killing his 10-month-old baby boy by throwing him to the ground and subsequently fracturing his skull.
Dawid Nowaseb, 27, threw the child to the ground to spite his girlfriend, Lucia Geinamseb shortly after an argument erupted between the two. The boy, August Geinamseb died due to hypervolemic shock, according to a post mortem report.
Nowseb was sentenced by high court Judge Christie Liebenberg this morning, weeks after he admitted that he indeed killed the boy. According to Nowaseb however, his intention was not to kill the child although he knew that throwing him to the ground could cause his death.
State Prosecutor Andreas Joseph rejected this plea, saying that Nowaseb had direct intent to kill the infant.
In addition to the murder charge, Nowaseb was also convicted and tried on common assault as well as assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, when he threw Lucia with a stone and slapped her. The incidents happen in 2018.
In 2019, a charge of escape from lawful custody was added to the indictment, after Nowaseb escaped. He, at the time, was busy with gardening when he fled. He was later arrested at a farm.
