More learners test positive for COVID-19

A TOTAL of 91 learners have tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.


The children form part of the 188 new cases recorded on Sunday.


The Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr. Kalumb Shangula announced that 99 of the new infections are male and 89 are females. The youngest victim is a two-year-old child while the oldest is an 89-year-old pensioner.

He said 31 learners are from Max Makushe Senior Secondary School in Andara district, 16 are from Ekulo Senior Secondary School in Omuthiya district, nine are from Dr. Romanus Kampungu in Rundu District and the rest are from different schools.


“We also have eight teachers from different schools and three healthcare workers from the Katima Mulilo, Otjiwarongo, and Outjo districts that tested positive. We have recorded 55 new recoveries. The recovery rate stands at 94 percent,” Dr. Shangula said.


The total number of active cases currently stands at 1 983, of which 128 people are hospitalized. Nine people are in intensive care units.


The cumulative number of confirmed cases in Namibia stands at 37 483.
