A DEMAND that the Namibian Government reverses its decision to allow Air Namibia to go into voluntary liquidation was contained in the petition protesters handed to the Secretary-General of the ruling Swapo Party.
A representative of Air Namibia and an affiliate of the National Union of Namibian Workers (NUNW), Beata Kane, read the contents of the petition and stated that all the employees are shocked and disturbed by the Cabinet’s deception of the Namibian people.
“The NUNW agrees and acknowledges that the national airline was experiencing financial troubles and that the entity needs restructuring, however, alternative solutions were provided to halt the liquidation of the airline,” she said.
Kane added that the decision by public enterprises minister, Leon Jooste to allow Air Namibia to go into voluntary liquidation was a deliberate move meant to sabotage the airline.
Upon receiving the petition Sophia Shaningwa promised that she would study and deliver the petition to the relevant authorities.
“I am informed that there are some workable proposals which will at least help out the airline from being liquidated. I propose that you hand in those solutions to my office for further study,” Shaningwa promised.
