THE Namibian Police in Walvis Bay is looking for the driver of a car who ran away after crashing into the fenced off area around a communications tower during the early hours of Sunday morning.
Three occupants of the car sustained various degrees of injuries, while the driver and another passenger left the scene of the crash before police officers arrived.
According to the accident report that was provided by the Namibian Police in the Erongo Region, the crash occurred at the end of 5th Road at around about 01:44.
The report states that the driver of a red Toyota Run X with registration number N162-019W, lost control over the vehicle before it became airborne and crashing into concrete palisade surrounding the MTC tower.
The vehicle also flipped over before getting hung up on the palisade fence around the tower.
A 28-year-old woman was seriously injured and after being stabilised in a Walvis Bay hospital, was transferred to a Windhoek hospital for further emergency medical treatment, while a 25-year-old man was less severely injured and was admitted to the Walvis Bay state hospital and a 27-year-old man was discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment for his injuries.
According to the report, the driver fled from the scene of the crash without ascertaining the extent of the damage or injuries to his passengers.
A case of reckless and negligent driving and a case of fleeing the accident scene and failing to ascertain the nature of injuries or extent of damage was registered with the Walvis Bay Police.
