A 29-YEAR-OLD woman with intellectual disability was arrested and charged with murder after she strangled her four-year-old daughter at the Omanenepeke village on Friday.
Omusati Regional Commander, Commissioner Titus Shikongo, said the gruesome crime against the child, identified as Emilia Ndiweni Josef, took place at around 13:00.
A case of murder, read with the provisions of the Combating of Domestic Violence Act, has been opened.
Shikongo noted that preliminary investigations reveal that the suspect, who is intellectually disabled, was left home alone with her daughter and two other minors, ages eight and ten, when the owner of the house left for Onesi.
He indicated that the suspect called her daughter to the bedroom to cut her hair, but instead attacked her.
“When the daughter entered the suspect’s room, the suspect allegedly grabbed her and strangled her with a white scarf, resulting in her immediate death,” he said.
Shikongo added that the motive for the crime is not yet known.
The suspect is expected to appear at the Outapi Magistrate’s court on Monday.
