A RESIDENT of the plots in the Swakop River, a 69-year-old man was arrested after he was found in possession of wildlife contraband and some ammunition for which he had no explanation.
According to the report provided by the Public Relations Divison of the Namibian Police, the suspect was arrested on Saturday after his home was searched by detectives.
The search produced five pieces of elephant tusks and an old rhino horn. The arresting officers also discovered 27 rounds of ammunition for a .308 calibre rifle, two live 7.62 rounds for an R1 automatic assault rifle, and 33 live rounds for .22 calibre firearm.
The suspect was arrested and will face charges related to the contravention of Section 4(1)(a) of Controlled Wildlife Products and Trade Act 9 of 2008 as amended by Act 6 of 2017 and the contravention of Section 33 of Arms and Ammunitions Act 7 of 1996 when he makes his first appearance in the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
