THE Namibian Police has launched a separate investigation into the gyrocopter crash on Thursday to ascertain if there could be any criminal aspect to the tragic incident.
The crash occurred on Thursday afternoon about ten kilometres outside Windhoek on the main road to the Hosea Kutako International Airport.
Hafeni Mushixwa, a senior aircraft accident investigator at the Directorate of Aircraft Accident Investigations confirmed that the Namibian Police have started with a parallel investigation to determine if the matter could have a criminal aspect.
“The DAA will still continue with its safety investigation. We want to learn what happened to prevent similar incidents in the future,” he said.
He said that the person piloting the aircraft was flying too low which led to the aircraft hitting the power lines that runs across the road.
The name of the deceased person and that of the survivor have not been made public yet.
