UNITY was Saturday the watchword at the Onandjaba settlement in the Omusati Region where Laurentius Iipinge celebrated his re-election as Okalongo constituency councillor on the Swapo Party ticket.
A big crowd joined in the celebrations, including a number of supporters of the three losing candidates.
“Our motto is unity. I was re-elected on a Swapo Party ticket, but I am the constituency councillor, there to serve all citizens equally regardless of whether they supported me or not during the elections. We will go a long way when we all work together as one,” said Iipinge who was re-elected to serve his second five-year term.
Iipinge won comfortably, obtaining 5,667 votes (80.08%). His closest opponent, IPC candidate Josua Mwetupunga, got 1,281 votes (18.10%), while independent candidates Jeronimo Kateya and Martha Mutunbulwa walked away with 103 votes (1.46%) and 26 votes (0.37%) respectively.
