Water shortage remains critical in Omusati

DESPITE the water situation slowly returning to normal, the Omusati Region lately remains critical.

NamWater’s Head of Public Relations and Communication, Johannes Shigwedha, however, revealed that the situation is being addressed on a different platform.

Shigwedha stated that the water reached Oshakati this morning and the production capacity has picked up from 800 cm/h to 1400 cubic metres per hour.

Water shortage critical Omusati Region
CRISIS AVERTED: Water from the Calueque Dam has reached the purification plant in Oshakati after the supply has been restored.

“The demand for these areas is 1800 cm/h and we normally pump 2000 cubic metres per hour under normal circumstances,” he said.

Thus, he said, the situation is slowly returning to normal.

Shigwedha further noted that right now, they will supply until 09h00 so that water reaches some parts not receiving water currently.

Moreover, Shigwedha indicated that NamWater trucks are providing water directly to these sensitive areas, such as hospitals and schools.

According to him, water is expected to be available in Oshana, Oshikoto, and Ohangwena regions from 05h00 to 08h00, 13h00 to 15h00, and 18h00 to 20h00.

“We are cautioning that during the hours when water is available, far away areas from the water source such as Omuthiya and Omutsegonime may not receive water,” he said.

He requested those affected by a shortage of water to be patient with them while they ensure that water reaches all affected areas.
