Locust swarm envelopes the Zambezi Region

Locust swarm envelopes the Zambezi Region

MILLIONS of migratory red locusts swept in over Katima Mulilo in a cloud that resembled a dust storm in the desert.

The outbreak of waves of the insects has been continuing for the past three weeks and left a trail of destruction where they passed.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform has already deployed teams of officials to spray the invading insects with poison.

Zambezi regional governor Lawrence Sampofu called on the agriculture ministry to allocate more manpower to contain the large swarms of insects that are inundating the land.

The agriculture ministry has since roped in the Namibian Air Force to assist with spraying the huge swarms from the air.
