LEO Mokanya, the young man who was arrested Saturday following a shooting incident at a wedding feast in the Ohangwena Region, has appeared in the Ohangwena magistrate’s court on charges of attempted murder and of discharging a firearm in a public place.
The 32-year-old Mokanya was arrested after he shot and injured Rehabeam Tulonga Nghinyengwile (31), who is his cousin, following a tense quarrel during a wedding reception in the Okatope village.
Nghinyengwile, who is a business developer, was shot in the thigh and was rushed to the Engela district hospital where he was admitted in a stable condition.
The victim is a former campaigner for Panduleni Itula but is now standing as an independent candidate for the Ohangwena constituency.
Other guests at the wedding that witnessed the shooting incident, said that the quarrel was unrelated to politics.
