US West Coast wildfire death toll rises

Staff Reporter

MORE than 30 people have been killed by wildfires that are sweeping through the West Coast of the United States.

Tens of thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes. Dozens of people were missing in Oregon, 40 000 people have been evacuated. About 500 000 people are in different levels of evacuation to escape the fires and the effect it is having on the environment.

Dozens of people are missing in Oregon alone, with one emergency official saying the state should be preparing for a “mass fatality incident”.

Fires have been raging in Oregon, California, and Washington for three weeks, burning millions of acres of land and destroying thousands of homes.

Hot and dry winds have been fanning the flames which are feeding on drought-sapped vegetation, across the three worst-affected states.
