THE Otjozondjupa Region has observed the first COVID-19 burial of a man who passed away due to COVID-19.
The Regional Governor, James Uerikua joined the health team and mourners at the graveside in Otjiwarongo to pay tribute to the 45-year-old victim of the pandemic.
Uerikua said that the deceased person was known to have had multiple co-morbidities and that he initially presented to a local health facility on the 25th of August 2020.
The patient was treated conservatively but his symptoms persisted and he was seen again by health officials on the 27th of August 2020. He was swabbed on the 28th and his results came out as positive on the 30th.
His condition, however, deteriorated and the patient died at home.
“Our hearts and condolences go out the family of the late and as a region, we stand together with you during this period,” Uerikua told mourners at the funeral.
The governor used the opportunity to further stress the need for strict adherence to the State of Emergency regulations under Stage 3 coupled with the burial protocols as announced by the central government.
