SYLVANUS Vatuva, the trailblazing first Governor of the Oshana Region has passed away at the age of 87.
President Hage Geingob in a special message of condolence lamented the death of Vatuva and said he played a vital role in shaping and building the Oshana Region.
“As the first councillor of Oshakati East and founding Governor of the Oshana region following independence on 21 March 1990, former Governor Sylvanus Vatuva was a trailblazer and dedicated public servant. Comrade Vatuva played a crucial role in assisting the Central Government in dismantling Apartheid Bantustans, and the setting up of administrative structures in the Oshana Region,” Geingob said.
According to the President, the late Vatuva’s contributions in shaping the growth trajectory of the Oshana Region into what it is today are indeed significant.
“I wish to express my sincere condolences to the widow, Mrs. Helena Vatuva, the children, the grandchildren, and the entire family. May his soul Rest in Peace,” he said.
Former Governor Vatuva passed away at Ongwediva earlier on Tuesday.
