ONE person died instantly and seven others were injured and rushed to the hospital after the Government vehicle they were travelling in overturned at the Omaupa village.
According to the police, the accident occurred on Saturday at around 16:30 along the main road between Iitananga and Omakange when one of the tires on the vehicle burst causing the driver to lose control over the vehicle.
Police regional commander, Commissioner Titus Shikongo identified the vehicle as a white Toyota pick-up truck that belongs to the agriculture ministry.
“It was travelling from Tsandi to Omutambo-womawe quarantine camp,” he said.
Commissioner Shikongo identified the deceased as Onelao location resident Eliakim Fukaile. The age of the deceased person is unknown.
The driver and six other passengers sustained serious to moderate injuries and were all taken to the Okahao district hospital from where some were further transferred to the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital.
Shikongo indicated that a case of culpable homicide and reckless and negligent driving was registered.
