A TRUCK driver employed by Plastic Packaging Company miraculously escaped the blazing flames of a truck after one of the trailer’s tyres burst, resulting in a massive fire.
The driver, according to police spokesperson in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha, was driving from the direction of Okahandja toward Otjiwarongo.
The accident happened on Monday at around 23h00, some 20km outside Otjiwarongo on the B1 road.
“It is alleged that the trailer tyre burst and as a result, the trailer started burning since it was carrying toilet papers and a variety of plastic materials. The driver was alone,” Mbeha said.
The truck, according to witnesses, continued burning throughout the night into the morning.
Meanwhile, the driver of Erongo governor, Neville Andre, the 52-year-old man Petrus Nuukala, died while driving the governor’s official vehicle last night at Walvis Bay.
Andre was not in his vehicle when the accident happened and his driver was alone.
The accident occurred on the Coastal B2 road in Walvis Bay.
Nuukala was overtaking a bakkie when he lost control of the vehicle.
