THE number of test results for COVID-19 from specimens collected in the Oshana Region has increased from 44 to 75 due to limited testing capacity currently available.
According to Oshana Regional Health Director, Johanna Haimene, the increased testing of people that are suspected to have been infected with COVID-19 has created the backlog of pending results.
Heimene indicated that 71 people are still in quarantine facilities after 46 whose test results proved negative, were discharged.
The health director assured residents of the region that the health ministry is busy improving the situation and that the long waiting periods for test results will soon be a thing of the past. She said that increased capacity will also reduce the time that people remain isolated while test results are pending.
According to Haimene, the ministry is busy working on strategies to diminish the backlog and requested people in both quarantine and isolation facilities remain calm and to practise patience while waiting for their results.
At the same time, Haimene expressed her sincere appreciation for the cooperation received from people as well as the good teamwork by members of the Regional COVID-19 Task Force.
“So far, the team’s effort and spirit is quite commendable,” she remarked.
