THE Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) said its regional chairpersons communication is only limited to the matters around the regional structure they represent.
This follows after the Omusati regional sport commission chairperson Vaino Shimutwikeni, told Informanté that the National Youth Games (NYG) is expected to take place later this year if the country enters Stage 4 of the State of Emergency.
Shimutwikeni indicated that plans are in place to host the games from 25 to 27 September at Rietfontein and from 3 to 5 October in Swakopmund.
However, NSC clarified that the information about the National Youth Games shared during the information sharing session in Omusati Region does not represent the position of the national body with regards to the scheduling of the events and venues.
“It should also be noted that information with regards to the preparation of the regional teams as per regional structured events fall within the mandate of the regional chairpersons, however, the overall operations remains that of the NSC secretariat,” read the press statement.
Moreover, NSC indicated that the final decision will be made based on sporting activities allowed within the prevailing COVID-19 regulations.
The commission further affirmed that they are in consultation with key stakeholders and strategic partners, including the sports ministry, with regards to the possibility of hosting the games.
