AN increasing number of incidents of theft and vandalism of electricity supply infrastructure at sub-stations is becoming an issue of concern for authorities.
Northern Electricity Distribution’s Chief Executive Officer, Fillemom Nakashole during a groundbreaking ceremony of a new electrification project at the Efidi Lomulunga location in said the theft of copper wire not only means that revenue is lost.
“People involved in copper theft can be seriously injured or even killed. They not only put themselves in danger but they also endanger the lives of other people,” he said.
Besides the loss of revenue he said that copper theft creates a massive problem in the delivery of services.
He said incidents of infrastructure theft has reached epidemic proportions and NORED requires a stronger collaborative and cooperation efforts from their stakeholders in the fight against these types of crimes.
