THE Oshana Directorate today declared the immediate suspension of face to face classes at Mweshipandeka Secondary Secondary school in Ongwediva, amidst reports that a learner at the school tested positive for the coronavirus.
The 20-year-old grade 12 learner reportedly travelled to Walvis Bay for school holidays when the lockdown was declared.
The learner on 5 June returned from Walvis Bay and resumed classes.
It is further alleged that the learner, upon arrival in Ongwediva from Walvis Bay, attended school without being placed in quarantine.
His test results were presented last week Monday.
Today, a report from the Oshana Directorate of Education directed at the school, sought for the suspension of face to face classes until a further announcement is made.
Learners accommodated at the school have been requested to remain at the hostel for a period of four days until they have been cleared.
All the learners at the school will undergo mandatory testing, as health officials will be dispatched to the school.
Cleaning and disinfection of the school grounds will also take place, the communication from the Education Director in the region, Hileni Amukana, stated.
