NAMIBIA registered a new record number of 33 new COVID-19 cases in a single day in Walvis Bay.

A little more than than 24 hours before the Erongo Region along with the rest of Namibia is supposed to progress to Stage 4 of State of Emergency, the Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr. Kalumbi Shangula, announced that 20 out of the 33 new cases was the result of communal transmission of the SARS-CoV2.

“Two-thirds of the new cases are women while 13 of the patients presented with symptoms of COVID-19 at the time of swabbing. A third of the new cases were identified as a result of the active case search campaign in Walvis Bay,” he said.

Dr. Shangula said the tracing of contacts of the new cases has already started and that 159 people are currently in isolation under the supervision of health officials.

The health minister repeated his call to the residents of Walvis Bay to remain calm and to work together to flatten the curve of infection.
