A DAY of fun ended in tragedy for the family of the 15-year-old Laurens Alberts who died instantly after being struck by fast moving vehicle while crossing a road in Swakopmund.
According to the accident report provided by the Namibian Police, the tragedy occurred at about 16:49 in the vicinity of the Ocean View Shell service station on the main road between Swakopmund and Henties Bay.
Earlier in the day the Alberts who resides in Maple Street in Oceanview asked his parents if he could go spend the day with friends at a house on the plots at Nonidas.
According to the report the friend’s father brought the deceased boy home at around 16:49 and stopped along the C34 Road to drop him off. The fatal accident occurred when Alberts ran across the road from behind the bakkie of the friend’s father.
The deceased person was struck by a tow-in vehicle driving towards Henties Bay.
The impact flung the deceased person several meters away from the initial contact and according to one of the first responders, Alberts sustained severe injuries to his head and abdomen.
He was declared dead on the scene by paramedics and the body was transported to Walvis Bay Police mortuary for post mortem purposes.
According to the accident report a test on the driver of the tow-in truck on the scene of the accident proved that he was sober.
