THE Namibian Police assisted by members of the District Watch are hunting for a gang of five men who attacked and robbed an elderly couple on a farm outside Otjiwarongo.
The couple, the 76-year-old Jochen Gomoll and his partner Christine Riedmaier were overpowered by five armed men in their house on Farm Aberfelde on Saturday evening. The attackers tied the elderly people up and left them in the bedroom while plundering the farmhouse for valuable items to steal.
The elderly couple was discovered still tied up by a farmworker on Sunday morning. The police and the district watch were contacted and Gomoll and Riedmair were admitted to a hospital in Otjiwarongo in a stable condition.
One of the people that responded to the farm that is situated about 30 kilometres outside Otjirarongo on the Kalkfeld road, said the victims did not sustain serious injuries during the attack.
The robbers managed to open a safe inside the house and they stole an assortment of firearms like hunting rifles and a revolver. They also took cash that was held in the safe and robbed the elderly couple of their mobile phones before fleeing the scene of the crime on foot.
Police officers and members of the district watch that followed the tracks of the attackers found the hunting rifles and some documentation that belongs to the victims dumped in the bushes.
It s believed that the attackers dumped the stolen rifles and passports of the elderly couple before they boarded a getaway vehicle that were waiting for them about three kilometres from the farmhouse.
