THE sudden spike in new COVID-19 cases reported since the start of weekend seemed to have flattened off again after no new cases was reported on Sunday.
Dr. Theo-Ben Kandetu during the latest information session at the National Covid-19 Communication Centre confirmed that Namibia now has 29 registered cases of which 13 are active.
Dr. Kandetu while giving feedback said that one of the active cases, patient number 22 is still in a critical but stable condition in a Walvis Bay hospital.
The fact that the one of the four new cases registered on Friday is the second known communal transmission of the SARS-CoV2 in the country has led to a spike in concern that the lockdown of Walvis Bay might be extended beyond the 8th of June.
He said the country now has 13 active cases after the number of positive cases reported since 28 March rose to 29. Dr. Kandetu added that 4 766 tests have been done by the Namibia Institute of Pathology and PathCare and that 455 contacts with active cases has been identified.
He reiterated that Namibia still has no COVID-19 related deaths.
According to Dr. Kandetu there are currently has 815 people in quarantine facilities across Namibia.
