Violent robber leaves old lady hospitalised

THE Namibian Police in Usakos has requested the assistance of the public to find a man who robbed an elderly woman after attempting to kill her during violent attack in her house.


According to the incident report provided by Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, the Erongo Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, the 72-year-old victim who stays at plot 47 on the outskirts of Usakos sustained injuries when the attacker attempted to strangle her after striking the elderly woman several times in the face and on her head with his fists in her bedroom.


“At some stage during scuffle early on Saturday morning, the elderly victim managed to struggle free from the man attempting to strangle her. Once she was free from his grip the man abandoned his attempt to kill the victim.”


According to the report the attacker left the elderly woman in her bedroom and ran to the kitchen where he grabbed her handbag which contained N$4 200 in cash and fled the scene of the crime on foot.

During the struggle with the old woman the attacker left behind an old pistol and a crowbar. The pistol had no ammunition and the serial number was filed off.


The old woman told investigators that the robber was alone and that he gained entrance to her home by opening and climbing through a bathroom window before he attacked her.


According to the incident report the shocked elderly woman was transported to the Usakos State Hospital where medical personnel treated the injuries she sustained. She is still admitted and is said to be in a stable condition.


No arrest has been made and none of the stolen money has been recovered and in this regard the Police requested people who have a information about the suspect or the incident to contact Deputy Commissioner Iikuyu at 081 246 4757, Detective Warrant Officer Kabuku at 081 391 0671 or the Police Station closest to them.
