A TOTAL thirty-one suspected were arrested countrywide on charges relating to possession and dealing in drugs over the long weekend alone, with the drugs confiscated estimated to a value of over N$800,000.
The drugs, according to Nampol Spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, range from crack cocaine, mandrax and cannabis.
They are worth N$853 750 and weigh over 5 120 grams.
Meanwhile, the police in Onayena is seeking for assistance in tracing two men suspected in the gang rape of an 18-year-old girl last Sunday at the Iikokola village.
The victim was reportedly on her way from a neighbouring homestead when two unknown men followed her.
“She saw the two men following her and then one of them suddenly grabbed her on the arms while the other one held her on the mouth. They dragged her into the nearby bushes and took turns raping her. No arrest has been made yet and police investigations continue,” Shikwambi said.
In another sexual violence incident, a 13-year-old girl was raped by a 22-year-old man who reportedly forcefully made his way into her room at Rundu on Sunday
Both the victim and suspect reside in the same home, Shikwambi said, adding that the man has since been arrested and is due to appear in the Rundu Magistrate’s court.
In a separate incident on Friday, a 30-year-old man from Omhedi village in the Ohangwena Region instantly lost his life after he slipped and fell into an earth dam while taking a bath.
The deceased has been identified as Tuyoleni Teofelus.
“His body was retrieved from the dam by police divers and his next of kin were informed. Police investigations continue,” Shikwambi added.
