A 49-year-old Namibian man, who produced and sold child pornography on obscure internet websites known as the dark web has been arrested in Windhoek.
The suspect, who in the past served as a police officer, was arrested on charges relating to sexual acts with under aged children as well as the production and sale of child pornography
Besides selling smut on the internet, the suspect sustains himself by working as a freelance photographer who specialises in school photography and sport events at schools.
Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, the head of the Namibian Police’s Public Relations Division, confirmed the arrest of the suspect on Friday.
According to Deputy Commissioner Shikwambi the suspect has been under investigation for quite some time already.
“At this stage that is the only information we are able to make public,” she said indicating that a special press briefing where more details about the case will be disclosed after the suspect has made his first appearance in the magistrate’s court on Tuesday.
It is alleged that the suspect filmed children engaging in sexual acts with each other as well as himself while sexually abusing boys between the ages of nine and 17 before selling the material to paedophiles on the dark web.
More than 20 of the suspect’s young victims have so far been identified by detectives investigating the matter.
