Skeletal remains of missing man found

Staff Reporter

A SECOND set of skeletal remains believed to be that of another man who was part of a group of three that went missing in the area of the Brandberg more than a month ago, was discovered by a goat herder on Farm De Rust over the weekend.

The first set of decomposed remains was discovered on the same farm about two weeks ago.

Police now suspect the three men of San decent – the 46-year-old David Uniseb, also known as, Ou Nanab, the 35-year-old Abraham Kheinamseb, Ou Nanab’s brother and the 26-year-old Sean Sarel Gomiseb the son of Ou Nanab – who travelled from Gobabis to the Brandberg were attacked and killed by wild animals.

They were last seen alive on 22 March while walking in the direction of Uis.

The suspicion of the possible involvement of wild animals in the deaths of the two men was made stronger because the first set of remains that was discovered on the same farm about two weeks ago showed signs of mutilation by a large predatory animal like a lion or a hyena.

The police was summoned to the scene of the latest discovery on Farm De Rust, about 65 kilometres from Uis and according to Deputy commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, the Erongo Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, the scene of the first discovery is very similar to that of the second scene.

“Officers investigating the second scene also observed dry blood drops and drag marks on the ground. The drag marks went up a hillside to a cave where a yellow T-shirt, blue sandals, red jersey and a set of orange overalls were discovered along with some of the deceased person’s bones. It is suspected that the body was dragged into the cave by a wild animal,” he said.

At the scene of the first discovery earlier this month, police discovered several bones of a human skeleton along with a blanket, a pair of boots, socks, dark blue cap, red overall and a bag.

The three men were reported missing on 23 March when they did not show up in Uis or the farm where the spent a night before disappearing.

The trio hired a driver to take them to the Brandberg where they wanted to go and dig for precious stones.

The driver of the car had earlier told the police that the trio decided to walk towards the Brandberg mountains after the vehicle ran out of fuel to the north west of the Brandberg.

The driver later told police that they encountered lions and elephants after they got lost in the desert.

While they were backtracking, the vehicle ran out of fuel and that is when Ou Nanab and his two companions decided to walk back to Uis.

According to Deputy Commissioner Iikuyu, members of Ou Nanab’s family in the meantime were able to identify the clothing and other personal items found at the scene of the first discovery.

He indicated that family members will be summoned to identify the items discovered at the second scene before they can divulge the names of the deceased persons.

Deputy Commissioner Iikuyu said that the search for the third man is still ongoing.
