PRESIDENT Hage Geingob said that all the ministers he sacked were given fair opportunity to explain themselves.
Geingob told people attending Swapo’s star rally at Omuthiya star rally that government is addressing corruption in the country.
He was giving examples of the resignations of Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources Bernhard Esau and Minister of Justice Sackey Shanghala earlier this week following allegations of being involved in a bribing scandal that erupted around the fishing industry.
“I had called in Shanghala and Esau, who are implicated in the corruption to explain themselves before letting them go. You don’t just grab a person because of the allegations made against them, they should be found guilty by the court,” he said.
He explained that when allegations of corruption against some ministers were exposed, he demoted and moved some to other ministries while he also asked the ACC to investigate the allegations.
Dr. Geingob also noted that the ruling party is also addressing corruption within its ranks.
