SWAPO Party spokesperson, Hilma Nicanor, has been appointed as special advisor on veterans’ affairs in the Office of the Vice-President, effective 1 November.
The announcement comes just a few months after Nicanor, currently number 18 on the Swapo parliamentary list for the National Assembly, willingly resigned as Keetmanshoop Urban constituency councilor in compliance with the Electoral Act.
Nicanor is also a former Deputy Minister of Veteran Affairs.
In a letter addressed to her by the Head of State, Hage Geingob maintained that Nicanor’s remuneration and benefits will be fixed at the level of a deputy minister.
“Your appointment is with effect from November 1 2019 to 20 March 2020. As a Special Advisor to the vice president on veteran affairs, you will, under his direction continue to oversee the policy aspects of the Ministry of veterans’ affairs, including the welfare and interests of the veterans of the liberation struggle. I take this opportunity to express my confidence and trust in your ability to execute your duties with the same zeal and fairness with which you executed your duties as deputy minister,” the letter reads.
