Red card cost the French dearly

WALES secured their spot in the semi-final round of the 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan by beating a 14-men French team with a single point.

A blatant elbow to the face of Welsh flanker Aaron Wainwright by French lock forward, Sebastien Vahaamahina eight minutes into the second half resulted in a red card and the men in blue was left defending their 19 – 10 lead at the half time break with only 14 men on the field.

A penalty goal in the second half by the Welsh allowed them to creep closer the French lead and a dramatic try in the final minutes of the match in Oita gave the Welsh team their 20 – 19 victory.

Wales will now face the winner of the second quarter-final match between South Africa and Japan.
