DRIKUS Coetzee won his first ever Pick n Pay Cycle Classic when he surpassed Alex Miller and Xavier Papo on his way to the finishing line.
He won the elite men’s 100km race in a time of 2:33:07, with Miller and Papo coming in second and third place respectively.
He took the lead right from the start and broke away from the rest as the first seven cyclist turned off to the Daan Vilijoen road.
“Today was the best race that I had ever experience in Namibia, it was hard racing like it should be and I hope this is the level we are getting now for the future, because today was the first proper race I have raced here in Namibia,” he said after the grueling race.
Michelle Vorster dominated the women’s 100km race to win in a time of 2:39:39, while Risa Dreyer Burger came in at second place in a time record of 2:58:15 and Melissa Hinz in third place in 2:58:15.
In the men’s 60km race, Divan Farmer came first in a time of 1:47:33 while Konrad Marais was second place and Bergran Jensen third.
In the women’s 60km race, Monique du Plessis won the race in a time of 2:01:01, followed by Mandy Huysamen in second and Marsha Nel in third position.
