A KEETMANSHOOP mother was arrested over the weekend after she stabbed her three-year-old toddler twice in the back with a knife.
According to the Namibian Police, the attempted murder happened on Saturday, 5 October, at around 18:00 in Lemoendraai Street, Tseiblaagte.
It is alleged that the woman, 36-year-old Elfriede Stoffels, who has been identified as the biological mother to the victim, stabbed her young child for reason unknown.
The toddler is currently hospitalised, but is said to be in a stable condition.
NamPol Spokesperson, deputy commissioner, Edwin Kanguatjivi, added that Stoffels appeared in the Keeptmanshoop magistrate court and was remanded in custody, with her next appearance set for 6 November 2019.

In another case of attempted murder, a 24-years-old man, identified as a member of the Namibian Defence Force Navy, was arrested after he shot a 30-years-old man, who is a member of the Namibian Police Force, VIP Directorate.
The incident happened on Sunday at about 01:05 in Klein William Street, Goreagab Dam.
It is alleged that the suspect shot the victim with a pistol in the shoulder during an argument at a bar. The victim managed to take the firearm away from the suspect and took it to the Wanaheda police Station.
The firearm used is licensed in the name of the suspect. The victim is in a stable condition at the Katutura State Hospital. Police investigations continue.
A case of murder and suicide was also reported after a Rehoboth resident, identified as Ruben Losper, 22, went to the house of his ex- girlfriend and stabbed her five times in the chest with a knife on Friday at about 21:00 in Kuvukiland.
The victim was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries upon arrival. Shoe tracks of the suspect were followed and his lifeless body was found at around midnight hanging from a tree with a wire around his neck.
The cause of the murder is unknown at this stage. The deceased victim has been identified as Bianca Van Wyk, 22.
She leaves behind two children, who are fathered by her attacker, the late Losper.
A 20-year-old man was also arrested in Okahandja after he raped a 15-year-old grade 7 learner. The incident took place on Saturday between midnight and 03:00 at Budget Homes, Nau-aib,
It is alleged that the suspect, a neighbour to the victim, took her to his residence and raped her.
