VISA on arrival programme launched

Business Reporter

THE Namibian government today commenced with the pilot project of issuing visas upon arrival to foreigners at Namibia’s flagship airport, Hosea Kutako International Airport.
This much awaited project will not only modernize the visa system of our country, but it will definitely increase efficiency, promote tourism and economic growth.
Speaking at the event Namibia Airports Company Board of Directors Chairman Dr. Leake Hangala, stated that new opportunities will be unlocked to our key stakeholders in the aviation industry and beyond.
Similarly, this initiative will make Namibia a destination of choice, attract skills and facilitating increased trade and investment to position Namibia as the logistic hub Hangala said.

He further stated that Airports are a critical gateway to any country’s economy and this pilot project to issue Visas upon arrival is one of the smarter approaches to support tourism and economic growth, whilst simultaneously maintaining the integrity and security of national borders.
“Grant visa of visas at airport is not an end in itself, but should be a means to make a competitive nation in terms of movements of people and goods, in terms of service delivery and of projecting an image of professionalism,” the chairman explained.
Hangala further stated that the Namibia Airports Company is aware of the current infrastructure limitation and set backs at our international airport, especially at the immigration services area, therefore concerted efforts are in place to increase the immigration counters with the view of enhancing a positive passenger experience.
Last week the Hosea Kutako International Airport Congestion Alleviation Project was launched on 16 September 2019 at an estimated value of N$250 million.
The upgrade and expansion work will focus in the key areas amongst others: Check-in counters, including introduction of self-service check in, outbound baggage facilities, security check points, passport control at immigration services, departure hall, arrival hall and baggage reclaim. In short, the look and feel of Hosea Kutako will change as we would like to make the place pleasant for those who work and travel through here.
