NAMIBIA National Students Organization (NANSO)’s president Ester Simon has been appointed as the new Country Liaison Officer for the Pan African Youth Festival.
Simon, who is the youngest member of President Hage Geingob’s High Level Panel on the Namibian Economy amongst the many hats that she wears, said that the Pan African Youth Festival is a high-level African youth forum that is inspired by the African Youth Charter to foster transformation.
She also said that the festival aims to bring ordinary young people, elected representatives and key stakeholders together, to explore the living conditions and perspectives of the young African generation.
It’s not only a personal achievement by its an achievement for the entire populous where the youth will be given a platform to participate and give their input and views within different sectors at an international level,” he said.
According to Simon, the festival, the African Youth Federation (AYF) is a youth consortium of youth organizations in Africa premised on the notion that youth have an integral role to play in the development of their respective nations.
“The AYF aims to see repositioned, redefined and enhanced role of youth in community, national, regional and global developmental processes through Coordination, Advocacy and Capacity building. AYF is determined and committed to provide a space and voice for African youth to propel their interests and aspirations to the key duty bearers in a more social, just, democratic and ecological Africa,” she said.
She further highlighted that, in 2018, the festival brought together 108 African youths from across the continent to address and harness key action plans
“The post- festival survey proved that youth have since been much better abled to take up action oriented interventions while discussing issues affecting them through building solid partnerships and collaborating within their micro social groups. This move has succeeded in building network organizations, clubs and associations that address issues such unemployment, skills set deficit, youth economic opportunities and sustainable development among others,” she added.
Simon’s appointment to the festival became effective earlier this week.
