A MAN, who attempted to rape a young mother while threatening to kill her with an axe and a knife after he broke into her room was tracked down to his own mother’s house in the Iilagati Village where was arrested.
According to the crime bulletin provided by the Namibian Police’s Public Relations Division the incident occurred at the village last Thursday.
“The suspect broke into the room where the 24-year-old woman and her nine-month-old baby were sleeping. When she woke up she saw the suspect standing in the room armed with an axe. He threatened to kill her and ordered her not to scream while demanding to have sexual intercourse with her. He used a pocket knife to remove the pair of pants she was wearing causing the woman to start screaming.”
According to the incident report the owner of the house heard the screaming and went to the room to ask what the trouble was.
It is alleged that the suspect fled the scene of his intended crime after he stole the woman’s mobile phone.
He was however arrested a short while later after his tracks were followed to his mother’s he was hiding. The axe, pocket knife and mobile pone were found in his possession
The suspect was subsequently charged with attempted murder, attempted rape and theft.
In a separate incident an employee of Oshana Security in Ongwediva was charged with rape, assault through threatening and pointing of a firearm after he had sexual intercourse with the 30-year-old wife of his domestic worker.
According to the crime bulletin the incident took place in the suspect’s room in the Omashekediva Village after he promised to pay the complainant but failed to do so.
When the complainant confronted the suspect about the money he owed her for the sexual intercourse he threatened her with his firearm and told her not to tell her husband.
The 32-year-old suspect was arrested.
In another incident, a case of rape was registered in Oranjemund on Sunday after a 32-year-old man had sexual intercourse with a 34-year-old woman against her will behind a place in town known as the Central Kitchen.
The incident occurred at about 04:00 and the suspect was arrested a few hours later.
