SINCO Fishing Company extended a helping hand by donating fodder worth N$116 000 to drought stricken farmers in the Oshana and Omusati Region.
Oshana and Omusati are some of the regions that are most severely affected by the drought which has forced farmers to abandon their farms in search for better grazing areas and water for their animals.
Director of the Company David Iileka, who handed over the donation on Monday to the governor of Oshana Elia Irimari, the nation is threatened by famine than they have witnessed in the past year.
“Our communities and especially our stock is hit hard if not wiped out due to drought,” said Iileka.
According to Iileka, in support of the nation outcry and in response to government’s drought relief call for support, the company donated 350 bales of grass to both Oshana and Omusati.
“We trust the donation will help those affected badly and without any means to save the little they have, trusting that those stock will survive and breed to make fresh start in the year.
Accepting the donation, Irimari said that the country has been affected by the hydrological drought, as there is no water in the country and animals have no means of surviving.
“No water, no food for animals and we don’t know if our animals will survive,” said Irimari, adding that when there is no water, so is there no food for the animals to survive the drought.
Irimari stated that the fodder donated will be distribute to those affected and needy in all the constituencies.
Irimari has called on farmers to come up with fodder production.
