PRESIDENT Hage Geingob has expressed deep concern over the escalating levels of alcohol and drug abuse especially among the poor members of society.
Geingob said while responding to questions during the Oshana town hall meeting held in Ongwediva on Monday.
He said that abuse of alcohol seems to be most prevalent among the poor, as such people consume more alcohol once they get money. Another concern of the President was that poor people would use money to buy alcohol instead of food.
Apart from poverty, inequality is one of the other contributing matter to alcohol abuse in the country.
“Because you are poor and troubled, then you want to drink that is not the solution. Drinking is not the answer to address problems in the country,” said Geingob.
