Okahatjipara Turf Club in collaboration with First National Bank will host the ’July Handicap’ one of the biggest horse racing events in Namibia, during this weekend.
The much anticipated FNB July Handicap horse racing event that will is expected to attract at least a thousand lovers of horse racing from all walks of life.
During this year’s event participants will competing for a whopping N$200 000 prize pot that will be spread accross 18 races, comprising of short and long distance sprints.
The FNB Namibia sponsored race, which takes place at the Okahatjipara race tracks, has been organised by the Professor’s Supporters Club and will see top bred horses coming from as far as Rehoboth, Otjinene, Aminuis, Okahandja and even from neighbouring countries such as Botswana.
Situated in Okondjatu village in the Okakarara constituency, the Okahatjipara Turf Club was established in 2015 in partnership with the Professor Supporters Club.
The partnership brought about the biggest horseracing event in 2017, the Gobabis Handicap that saw FNB sponsoring N$100 000 in prize money, which resulted in informal conversation with FNB coming on board as the main sponsors of horse racing events in Namibia.
At a recent press conference in Windhoek, FNB announced that it will sponsor N$600 000 to the Professor Supporters Club and Okahatjipara Turf Club over the next three years.
