AN own goal by Tunisia’s Rami Bedoui in the dying seconds of the match against Ghana drew the scores at 1 – 1 and gave the Black Stars a fighting chance in the last round of 16 game of this year’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament that seemed all but lost.
The own goal cancelled the sensational goal by Taha Yasinne Khenissi for Tunisia in the 73rd minute of the match.
The match went into extra time but with no goals scored during the 30 extra minutes the game went to penalty kicks.
Tunisia scored five penalties against the four of Ghana, ending the Black Stars’ campaign in the 2019 AFCON tournament abruptly.
After Khenissi’s goal the Black Stars took over possession of the ball and applied as much pressure as possible. Several long range attempts at goal missed by a hair’s breadth.
The Black Stars missed an excellent opportunity at scoring an equalising goal when a hand ball ruined superb play in the goal area of Tunisia early in the second half. The assist pass and kick was world class, but the goal was not allowed.
Tunisia progresses to the next round and will face the unbeaten AFCON debutants Madagascar in the quarterfinal clash.
