Oshana to host first boxing championship

THE Oshana Region is in full preparation mode to host its first ever world-title boxingmatch between Mika Shonena and Youli Dong from China in a World Boxing Organisation international fight.
The boxing championship fight is scheduled to take place in Ongwediva during the Annual Ongwediva Trade Fair, on the 24th of August.
Speaking during the announcement event, Oshana Governor Elia Irimari, said boxing is not an easy sport to maintain or mange as it requires disciplines from both the coach and boxer.
“Make use of the funds given by MTC for the right purposes rather than spending for the wrong reasons,” said Irimari.
He appealed to people to spread the message and invite more people.
Dong, who is still only 24-years old, is currently WBO Asia Pacific Youth welterweight champion with a professional record of 13 wins, one draw and one defeat. Meanwhile the 31-year-old Shonena, who is still undefeated after 14 professional fights, is the WBO Africa welterweight champion.
According to John Ekongo of MTC, said this fight is the first of its kind, where China will meet Namibia.
“Shonena is expected to be in the north two weeks before his fight, while Dong is expected to be here a week before the fight,” said Ekongo.
Ekongo added that a general ticket at N$100 per person will also give them entrance to the Ongwediva Trade Fair, while VIP tickets are up for grabs at N$10 000.
MTC also announced a sponsorship of N$ 1.2 million over three years for the Kilimandjaro Boxing Club.
