A SWAKOPMUND real estate agent was ordered to pay back an amount of US$850 000 (N$ 11 050 000) to a Congolese army general, Francois Olenga, who paid money into the agent’s agency, Kintscher Estate Agents for services never rendered.

Olenga’s lawsuit has been dragging on since 2014, when he first instituted the legal claim against Erwin Sprangers after he paid US$900 000 into the agency’s account, for Sprangers to act as his agent for the development of two properties that Olenga owns at the coastal town of Swakopmund as well as the further acquisition of properties for the general.
This was an oral agreement, the court was told. In 2010, Sprangers reportedly paid back US$50 000 of Olenga’s money but has since been failing to pay back the rest. Sprangers and his wife Lorinda, apart from this lawsuit have since 2016 been officially charged criminally over the dubious disappearance of Olenga’s money.
It is alleged that the couple misappropriated the money between February 2010 and December, for their own use. Sprangers was initially granted N$200 000 bail but it was reduced to N$100 000 in the criminal case.
Judge Thomas Masuku on Monday ordered that in addition to the US$850 000, Sprangers should pay interest of the money from the date of the lawsuit. He was also ordered to pay Olenga’s legal costs.
